Happy August!!

Can you guys believe it's August already? I can't... time really does fly. So I haven't been keeping up like I should've been... so, I thought I'd write today and say hi.

I don't know if I ever filled you guys in on the Omaha trip. A couple of weekends ago Adam and I flew to Omaha to help surprise Brian (the best man in our wedding). Brian's wife, Mary Karen, planned a weekend where some of us flew in to surprise Brian to celebrate his promotion to Major. It was fun finally meeting Mary Karen in person and also just hanging out with friends. I never thought I'd say it, but I think Omaha might be a cooler place to be than Phoenix... but of course, I don't live in Omaha so maybe I'm wrong.




We're still working on getting out of Phoenix. We've also come to terms with the fact that all of the work we've put into our house will just get f-ed up when we rent it out. But, it's just a house, right? Our backyard is really looking great... we've just been waiting for it to cool down enough to be able to enjoy it. Even Cicada ain't having it!! She goes outside, does her business, and then runs back inside. I guess 115 isn't okay with any type of being... except for this one invincible black widow that keeps building webs around my flowers... and y'all know how I feel about spiders... =(

Anyway, I miss you all so much!! I'm going to try to make a concerted effort to see all of you before the year ends. I'm trying to convince Adam that we should go visit California in August or for Labor Day Weekend... but we'll see. And I'll be in MD in Sept!!! YAY!!! I might get off the plane and never get back on!! =) Anyway, it's very rare that we make friends in this life that end up being lifelong friends... ya know, the kind that you might not see or talk to for months at a time but when you get back together it's like you were just hanging out the day before? Y'all are definitely mine. I'm very blessed to have friends from every stage of my life that I know will always be there!! Okay... enough touchy feely stuff... hahahahaha.

• Adam and I want to get the f*&% out of Phoenix... so if anybody hears of some awesome jobs, let us know.

4th of July

This past 4th of July weekend Adam and I went to Flagstaff and met up with the Marshall Clan. It was a lot of fun. We drove up Thurs after work and stayed at a hotel there while Dick and Marlene stayed in their new RV up the road. (As an aside, if I've never mentioned that RV to you before, this thing is nicer than most apartments I've seen!!)

Anyway, Thurs night we had a nice dinner with the parents and then picked Jason up at the airport. We called it a night after that since we'd been up since 5am. Fri was the actual holiday so we got up to see the 4th of July parade, at Dick and Marlene's request. It was a cute parade, but really really long!! So we left before it ended and got some pizza and beer.




That night we had a picnic at the RV park. It was good food... and then Jason dropped the big bomb (no... not a fart, sickos!). He announced that he's resigning his commission in the Air Force and joining the Army. No joke! We're not sure what he's going to do, yet, but we know that he's excited and that the Air Force wasn't for him... so... yay for him! He goes off to Warrior Transition Course this fall.

Saturday we went to Sedona... that's where I really wanted to go. We had a nice lunch and then split off and did our own things... Dick slept in the park, Marlene went shopping in the tourist trip of uptown Sedona, and us "children" went hiking at the Bell Rock Vortex. It's supposed to be where all the positive energy in the world meets up in the same place and it's supposed to have spiritual healing powers... I don't think it worked for me. =)




We had a nice dinner out in downtown Flagstaff that night (sushi... yummy) and then the kids went "out on the town." =) Jason kicked our asses at billiards (I think because we were drinking and he wasn't).



Sunday morning we got up... a little hung over... and went to church with the parents. The guest pastor there gave a 26 min sermon!! OUCH!! Adam and I were thinking about leaving but Marlene wanted to stay so we stayed. It was painful, though. Then we had a fat Mexican lunch and drove back to the 115 degree weather in Phoenix. =(

So... that's our weekend in a nutshell. Exciting, right?!?!?!? hahahaha... no, not really... but I wanted to share anyway. No one said you had to read it!! Love ya!! =)

Disaster Update

The Great Flood of 2008:
Everything dried up without any damage, except for the cabinets in our master bathroom. YAY!! So this past Thursday they came out and cleaned our carpets (in the entire house) and today we get to put everything back together (except for the bathroom... that's not fixed yet). The contractors came out last Tuesday to fix the bathroom, but brought the wrong part, so now we're just waiting on them to get everything together so that we can have our master bath back.

Easy Bake Mazda:
I took my car into the dealership last Saturday... ended up having to leave it there and get a rental because they couldn't figure out what was wrong. Turned out to be a broken blower control module that would've cost $1500 to fix, but the service writer worked out a deal with Mazda where it would be covered under warranty since I was only 400 miles past it. I got my car back on Wednesday and the AC works great! I guess my blower control module has always been a little broken, though, because whereas before I had 4 different speeds that were a little different but pretty much the same, now I have 4 very distinct air speeds. It's great!

Adam and I went to the Brad Paisley concert on Thursday. Jewel was the opening act. The concert was great. I was a little hot (outdoor venue) but both Jewel and Brad put on a great show. It was definitely a blast from the past with Jewel. Ah... high school memories... =).

When it Rains... it POURS!!!

It's already over 100 degrees every day. This is an important fact to keep in mind for the following story.

Yesterday morning I get up, get ready for work, get in my car, pull out of the drive way, turn on the AC... turn on the AC... turn on the AC... ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME??!?!?!?!?!??

My AC isn't working. I have 4 fan speeds, okay? And when I put it on 1, the AC is on, but no air. When I put it on 2, the AC is on, but no air. When I put it on 3, the air is on, but no AC. When I put it on 4, the air is on, but no AC!!!!!!!!

So, I drove to work and back with my windows down and sweating like crazy. It sucked. Luckily today Adam and I were able to carpool so we took his car. Tomorrow, who knows... blah!

So now, we're living in 1/2 our house and using 1/2 our cars. WHAT NEXT?!?!?!?


On the positive side, there's not much damage from the great flood of 2008 (contractor thinks we'll be back in our room by end of next week) and I've got an appt to take my car in on Saturday. Apparently I'm not the first Mazda 6 to have this problem... so Shan and Amber, watch out! =)
