Visiting Cops and a Kicked Hubby

Christmas is over now... hope it's not too difficult for everyone to get back into the swing of "normalcy." I went back to work today after almost a week off... it was rough, I'm not gonna lie.

The past few days have been full of weird things... I won't bore you with all of them, just one. Well, on Saturday, a nurse came by to give me a physical exam and everything seemed normal. She seemed like she was in a bit of a rush, but it was a Saturday afternoon and we both had things we'd rather be doing. Anyway, about 10 min after she leaves, I get this hard pounding on the front door... IT'S THE F-ING COPS!!! Apparently someone called the cops on ME saying that I had left a baby in the car. Okay... so first off, the baby's in my body so it's impossible for me to leave her in the car and secondly, they were saying it was a Nissan Sentra. I don't have a Nissan, let alone a Sentra!! So... best I can figure out is that the nurse that came by drove a Nissan Sentra and left her baby in the car while she was giving me my physical. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?!?!? It was irritating, too, because the cops were grilling me like I was lying to them about leaving my non-existent baby in the car. They eventually believed me... but wow!!! Who thinks it's a good idea to leave their baby in the car? If she really had that hard of a time finding a babysitter she could've brought the baby inside... I wouldn't have cared! I can only hope that I never do something that stupid.

The big news of the day is that Adam felt our baby kick for the first time today. We were at the doctor's office this morning and Adam was giving the doctor a hard time about how I feel the baby all the time but he's never felt anything. While he's saying this, the doctor put his hand on my belly and the baby kicked. The doctor started giving Adam a hard time about it and Adam didn't believe him... Adam thought the doctor was BSing him. Eventually the doctor took Adam's hand, put it on my belly, and held it there until the baby kicked. She kicked hard, too!!! Both Adam's hand and the doctor's hand jumped up. It was cute... Adam turned all red and couldn't stop smiling. He's been talking about it all day!! =)

That's it for now... if I don't get a chance to talk (or write) to you, have a safe and fun New Year's Eve. Can you believe it's gonna be 2009?!?!?!? Man, we're getting old... =)

Oh, and if you plan on going to the movies anytime soon, you should definitely see Seven Pounds and Valkyrie. They're actually pretty good. Seven Pounds is very touching...

Annual Bad Christmas Poem

(Start the drum roll.) Ladies and Gentlemen... Boys and Girls... The moment you've all been waiting for has finally arrived!! You are about to be fully blessed with the arrival of the Marshall's (Adam's) Annual Bad Christmas Poem. I know... you've been holding your breath for a whole year, right? =)

Okay, so for those of you who are unfamiliar with this tradition, every year for Christmas Adam writes a poem to catch everyone up on our year. This year is no different.

So, here it is...

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house,

Not a creature was stirring, not even a HOLY CRAP WE’RE PREGNANT
With an awaited baby boom, we write to say hi.
As promised last year, a baby Marshall is nigh
Sally is due the Spring of ’09!
Both Moms are ecstatic, a granddaughter will be thine
The Fathers equally proud about a baby to come
Though a girl is expected, a football fan would be fun
Throughout the year, we continued without much new
Adam’s still an Air Force officer, moving to Luke, a lot to do
In April, Sally changed jobs and has moved to education
At the University of Phoenix she counsels students without hesitation
Adam began two new paths – no not a stressor
Learning Marshall Ranch management and also a college professor
Sally’s involved at church including reading and the youth
She’s a great role-model for the young girls in truth
Sadly, we bring bad news about RADAR camera trouble
Both Marshalls went to traffic school and avoided paying double
In June came the great flood of 2008
During a country concert, the toilet supply line did break

Other family news concerns the enlistment of our brothers,

Jason the Army, Will the Marines – both say it’s their druthers

September saw a surprise trip, including some work

After NYC, we enjoyed a conference Adam’s duty not to shirk

November brought the family to feast in Avondale

Adam’s working Christmas, so this year it will pale

We look forward to renewing old friends now as in the past

We love you all and hope your Merry Christmas is a blast!

Merry Christmas, everyone!! We love and miss you!!

Mid-December Update

Hey, all!! Hope you're getting into the Christmas spirit and aren't too crazy with the world right now. Not much has been going on here. We got our first Christmas tree (since it's our first Christmas not traveling) and already we have some presents underneath it. Adam strung up the lights on the outside and put out my little snowflakes and trees... it looks pretty, I think.

We've been getting letters from Bill at Boot Camp. The first letter was very positive and it seemed like he was really enjoying himself. The second letter still sounded like he's having a "good" time... only now he's really starting to really sound like a Marine. The best part for me is reading his pages about what he ate for breakfast (in extreme detail) and how many bruises he has on his arms from drilling... I really can see him maturing each day into the person I know he can be. I can't wait until Feb when we go out to San Diego to watch him graduate.

The pregnancy is going well. I'm really starting to show now. Here's a picture of me after dinner. Apparently I get really big after I eat... I guess there's only so much room in there!! =)

Well... I think I'm going to cut this short. I mainly just wanted to post something since I haven't posted anything in a while. I wish I could say that I'll be seeing you all soon... well, who knows?

Oh! Speaking of seeing people... are any of you on Skype? If you are, let me know and I'll give you our address. We Skype with Brian and Mary Karen and Adam's parents frequently and we're usually logged in. Anyway... Miss you!!

To get you in the Christmas Spirit...

Now that Thanksgiving is over, here's a little poem to start off your Christmas season...

A Different Christmas Poem

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.

The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.

Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..

To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.

I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."

" So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

PLEASE, would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many
people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our
U.S service men and women for our being able to celebrate these
festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people
stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

A Historic Week Indeed

Good morning, ladies!! Has anyone ever noticed how much Sunday morning tv sucks? I suppose it won't matter much for me in a few months, but right now it sucks. What if I don't want to watch an infomercial on the ab roller or news about how Obama took his wife out to dinner last night? I guess I'm just SOL. =)

So, anyway, a lot has happened this week, right? I mean, our first Black President was elected! I have to say... no matter which candidate you voted for or which party you belong to, in the end we all witnessed history this week. Some may have chosen to be so angry that they didn't care to witness it... or are so scared that they're waiting for the world to just implode... but anger and fright doesn't change that Barack Obama will be our President. Racism isn't conquered... our government isn't going to just collapse... and, by the way, Obama is NOT the Messiah. There will be mistakes made and bumps in the road... but at least as a whole we have hope again and a very public sense that people are proud of the United States again.

Election Day also brought a historic moment to the Johns family. Bill was sworn in to the US Marine Corps. Yup!! Bill is now Private Johns. Can you believe it? I'm so proud of him!! His job will be as a cook, so he's happy. He ships off to boot camp sometime between tomorrow and Dec 2. I'm so excited for this new chapter in his life. My brother is one of the smartest and hardest working (when he wants to) people I know... and now I think he'll finally have a chance to (and be forced to) live up to his potential. The only thing I'm a little sad about is that depending on when he ships out, he might graduate right before the baby's due... and if that happens, I won't be able to go see his graduation. Adam has promised to go and represent our little Marshall family as long as I'm not in labor... so that makes me feel better about it. So, now, I have a husband in the US Air Force, a brother in the US Marine Corps, and a brother-in-law in the US Army. Does that mean I'm supposed to join the US Navy?!?!?!? =)

I threw my friend, Lynn, her baby shower yesterday with another friend's help. It was so cute... until the f-ing 95 degree sun started melting the cookies and cupcakes and we had to move everything inside. I mean, seriously!! It was in the 70s all week and then Sat rolls around and it's back to being "kill-me" hot. It was a mess... it was supposed to be a tea party so we had tons of hot tea and pastries... and of course the sun melted the pastries and no one drank the hot tea... eventually we moved inside, cranked up the AC, and left the cuteness and tea party behind. This is 2 parties in a row now that the heat has "killed"... so, I'm done throwing parties until we leave this horrible desert. Oh, and by the way, it's overcast and in the 70s today... gotta love it!!

Anyway, I think I've run out of things to talk about... except that I miss you all!! I was talking with my friend, Jocelyn, over lunch yesterday (she brought me yummy homemade Thai Kimchi Soup) and I realized how much I miss the days when good friends would come barging into my room at 8am (or 8pm or 2am) to go eat... when the biggest "dramas" of our lives were of finding prom dates and making dinner plans... when going to work was like going to hang out with my eccentric family. Adam is in Sacramento this weekend and he's been sending me pics of the sunsets and green lawns... I really do miss green landscaping!! Okay... enough reminicising! Hope everything is good with you guys!!

Love you!!!

It's a Girl

Hello!!

As you all know, we went to get our official ultrasound done on Wed. They took a bunch of pictures of the baby's internal organs... it's very strange to see brain, heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, stomach, etc. inside of you and they don't belong to you. =) Anyhow, after much fussing on the ultrasound technician's part and a lot of rolling around on my part, the technician was able to see between the baby's legs and... it's a girl!

I attached the pictures for you to see. One is the shot where the technician announced it's a girl and the other is a frontal shot of the baby (the one where it looks like she's an alien... I guess she was in the spirit of Halloween!). According to the technician, everything looks normal. She moved our due date up a week to 04/04/09. I guess we'll find out for sure on Mon when we see our doctor.

Adam's already freaking out. In the room while all of this is going on, he's saying, "Oh, now I'm gonna have to pay for a wedding. And she's gonna need a prom dress. And, oh man, she's gonna get her period. I don't know what I'm supposed to do..." =) He has since calmed down... but not much. =)

So... congrats!! You're aunties of a baby girl!! =)

Baby Update

Good morning!! I'm not quite awake yet, but that just means that this should be an interesting post, right? =) Probably not...

We went to our monthly appointment this past Monday and got another picture of the baby at about 14 weeks. I thought I'd send it out to you all so that you can see him/her. The head is on the left and the butt is on the right... imagine a baby lying on his/her stomach and you'll see the outline. You can also kinda see the spine along the top. We're getting a lot of wives' tales told to us about whether we're having a girl or a boy... so far the verdict is a 50/50 shot at either gender. =) We find out the sex on 10/29, so be on the lookout for text messages and emails around Halloween.

Other than that, I don't really have much to share. I'm throwing a friend her baby shower so I've been happily putting together ideas and shopping for it. Planning this party makes me miss planning the wedding... apparently the headaches of it all don't last in memory. =) I've put grad school on hold for now. Between the mass amounts of sleeping and attempting to function in life, my schoolwork has slacked off. So, instead of failing my courses, I've decided to take a little break. In an ironic twist, I can't get my f-ing Academic Counselor to return my calls and emails... too bad I can't just do it myself. =/

Anyway, I love and miss you all. If I haven't returned your calls it's not because I don't want to talk to you, it's just that I'm probably sleeping.... or eating... or crying for no good reason (yeah, I do that now... who would've thought?).

catch up

Hola!!

So... I was trying to be responsible this morning and do some classwork, but I'm not able to log in. So, that means that instead of being responsible, I'm going to try to catch you all up on the lives of the Marshalls (I know... you've been holding your breath ever since the last post waiting for my witty and inspiring words... ... hahahaha).

Adam and I just got back this week from our first anniversary trip (can you believe it's been a year?!?!?). Yes, it was a little early but the timing just worked out that way. Adam first surprised me with a trip to Manhattan to see the sites. I'd never been to NY before (I know... even though I lived so close... long story) so Adam took me to see Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Greenwich Village, Tribeca, Ground Zero, etc. We stayed right in the middle of it all so everything worked about perfectly. The best part was that he took me to see The Lion King on Broadway! I had a lot of fun, but in the end I think that NY is just too much city for me. I'm more of a DC/Baltimore kind of gal. =) Speaking of, we spent the last 4 days in Baltimore for the National Guard Conference. It was so nice to be back in Baltimore. We saw a lot of good friends (missed a few, too, though) and I got to see Sen. Biden, Sen. McCain, and the Secretary of Defense speak. Everyone keeps asking me if they had anything good to say... but in all honesty it was a National Guard Conference, so of course everything was about GO MILITARY. Nothing about the economy or future plans or anything like that... =/ Adam was also really cute and on our first night there took me to a surprise dinner at the restaurant that we had our first date. It was funny watching Adam tell the story of our first date to our server... like father, like son. =)

Other than that I don't think much else has been going on. I'm getting fatter and sleepier and hungrier every day! =) It's nice, though, because I have a coworker who is 5 months prego and a friend who is also 5 months prego so at least I have some people to constantly ask questions to... that and all of my lovely mom friends who've "been there, done that" and think I'm funny and cute for asking such "silly" questions. I tell ya what, though... my slowly dying levels of patience are making work a little interesting. Before we went on vacation, I told a whining student that she can call me back when she's ready to take her education seriously and hung up. While I was gone she complained to my partner and he was like, "Sally would never say that." I hated to burst his bubble when I got back... but oh well. It's not my education, it's theirs!! Right? (Just say yes...)

Anyway, I think that's it for now... I'm sure I'm missing something big but my pregnant brain doesn't remember crap anymore. I'm off to tell my aesthetician that we're expecting... wish me luck!!

04.10.2009

Okay... so originally I was going to just post the sonogram picture and see what happened... but then I thought I'd text instead. So, now that you all know that we're going to have a baby, here's the details.

As of this morning, we're 10wks into the pregnancy and the baby is very healthy. I had blood drawn last month and we've tested negative for everything that we can test for so far... so yay!! =) The heartbeat is around 168/min and the baby is 3cm long. We obviously don't know if it's a boy or girl, yet, so we call it Beanie since it's about the size of a lima bean right now. Retarded, I know... but Adam's coworkers are calling it Minnow (Adam being Trout and me being Guppy... they came up with Minnow for the baby). Anyway, here's the sonogram pic (sorry the scanned image is a little blurry). On the left is the baby's head and on the right is the baby's butt.

Love you and miss you all!!

Lazy Sunday

Good morning, my lovelies!!

I've been meaning to write and update this, but sometimes life just gets in the way. It's quite a pathetic excuse actually, but it's true. That, and I think that there isn't really anything interesting in our lives to write about lately. I was talking with a co-worker about those blogs that go famous and have millions of readers and I just don't understand them... I mean, there isn't anything that I can think of in my life that would entertain MILLIONS of readers... but those bloggers make crazy money on advertisement income and sponsorships... so I better make up an interesting life or something. =)

As you all know we were in Cali for Labor Day Weekend. So for my CA peoples... I AM SO SORRY if I didn't get a chance to see YOU while we were there. It was so short of a weekend and my parents had a bunch of things planned for us that I wasn't quite expecting. But I do miss you all terribly and was really hoping to see you. If I did get to see you, AWESOME!! =)

On a happy note, I got to see my bro's new apt and eat at his restaurant. I'm so proud of him!! His apt leaves a little to be desired (kind of an understatment) but it's perfect for his stage in life right now. Plus, it's a 5 min walk from the beach... so really, what's better than that?!?!?!? His restaurant is also on the beach... I've gotta admit I'm a little jealous right now. =) His food was very good. I've always known that he can cook, but let me tell you... his strength is in food art. The presentation and plating of all of the courses was amazing. He's a sous chef now, but I know he'll be a chef of his own kichen soon. If I could open a restaurant with Adam as the sommolier and Bill as the chef, I'd be famous. hahahaha =)

Cicada's still crazy. She's now figured out that she can open up the panels covering the sliding door if she hits them with her head. Only thing she hasn't figured out is that she could push them with her head and it probably wouldn't hurt as much or be as dramatic. It startles me everytime she does it... I always think something's exploding by the sliding glass door when she does it. But, I suppose if I was a dog locked in the house 23 hours a day because it's so f-ing hot outside that I'd do some dumb things, too. =/

Jason, Adam's brother, is here visiting. He arrived on Thurs and is staying until next Mon. Which, by the way, is also the day Adam and I leave for our anniversary trip. I'M SO EXCITED!! I have no idea where we're going... Adam won't tell me... but I do know that I'll be in Baltimore/DC the last 4 days of it so my MD peoples... keep your calendar open that weekend so that we can meet up. I think it's like Sept 19-23 or something like that. I wish I could give you better details, but my hubby is being very tight-lipped about everything. He's being "veeeery very sneeeeeaky." =/

Anyway, time to get ready for the day. I've got to play good host to my bro-in-law and also wrap up a gift for a pregnant friend. Mary Karen, you and Brian talked that baby book up so much that we thought we'd spread the love and get a copy for our friends here. =) Even though we haven't read it, yet, we've seen the results in Anya and Brody so it's gotta be good. We're spreading your legacy around Phoenix. hahahahaha! Gotta love it.

Miss you all tons!! I need some dim sum and some margaritas on the beach... =)

Thursday, August 7, 2008

we're going back to cali... cali... cali...

So... we'll be back in Oxnard Aug 28 - Sept 1... so, if anyone will be around, let us know. We'd love to meet up.

WOO-HOO!!! Outta the f-ing hot desert and back on the beach. YAY!!

Sunday, August 3, 2008

Happy August!!

Can you guys believe it's August already? I can't... time really does fly. So I haven't been keeping up like I should've been... so, I thought I'd write today and say hi.

I don't know if I ever filled you guys in on the Omaha trip. A couple of weekends ago Adam and I flew to Omaha to help surprise Brian (the best man in our wedding). Brian's wife, Mary Karen, planned a weekend where some of us flew in to surprise Brian to celebrate his promotion to Major. It was fun finally meeting Mary Karen in person and also just hanging out with friends. I never thought I'd say it, but I think Omaha might be a cooler place to be than Phoenix... but of course, I don't live in Omaha so maybe I'm wrong.

We're still working on getting out of Phoenix. We've also come to terms with the fact that all of the work we've put into our house will just get f-ed up when we rent it out. But, it's just a house, right? Our backyard is really looking great... we've just been waiting for it to cool down enough to be able to enjoy it. Even Cicada ain't having it!! She goes outside, does her business, and then runs back inside. I guess 115 isn't okay with any type of being... except for this one invincible black widow that keeps building webs around my flowers... and y'all know how I feel about spiders... =(

Anyway, I miss you all so much!! I'm going to try to make a concerted effort to see all of you before the year ends. I'm trying to convince Adam that we should go visit California in August or for Labor Day Weekend... but we'll see. And I'll be in MD in Sept!!! YAY!!! I might get off the plane and never get back on!! =) Anyway, it's very rare that we make friends in this life that end up being lifelong friends... ya know, the kind that you might not see or talk to for months at a time but when you get back together it's like you were just hanging out the day before? Y'all are definitely mine. I'm very blessed to have friends from every stage of my life that I know will always be there!! Okay... enough touchy feely stuff... hahahahaha.

Have a fun August, peoples!! And maybe I'll be seeing you soon!! Kisses!!

  • Bill and Marivy broke up and they're more entertaining than the Real World.

4th of July

This past 4th of July weekend Adam and I went to Flagstaff and met up with the Marshall Clan. It was a lot of fun. We drove up Thurs after work and stayed at a hotel there while Dick and Marlene stayed in their new RV up the road. (As an aside, if I've never mentioned that RV to you before, this thing is nicer than most apartments I've seen!!)

Anyway, Thurs night we had a nice dinner with the parents and then picked Jason up at the airport. We called it a night after that since we'd been up since 5am. Fri was the actual holiday so we got up to see the 4th of July parade, at Dick and Marlene's request. It was a cute parade, but really really long!! So we left before it ended and got some pizza and beer.

That night we had a picnic at the RV park. It was good food... and then Jason dropped the big bomb (no... not a fart, sickos!). He announced that he's resigning his commission in the Air Force and joining the Army. No joke! We're not sure what he's going to do, yet, but we know that he's excited and that the Air Force wasn't for him... so... yay for him! He goes off to Warrior Transition Course this fall.

Saturday we went to Sedona... that's where I really wanted to go. We had a nice lunch and then split off and did our own things... Dick slept in the park, Marlene went shopping in the tourist trip of uptown Sedona, and us "children" went hiking at the Bell Rock Vortex. It's supposed to be where all the positive energy in the world meets up in the same place and it's supposed to have spiritual healing powers... I don't think it worked for me. =)

We had a nice dinner out in downtown Flagstaff that night (sushi... yummy) and then the kids went "out on the town." =) Jason kicked our asses at billiards (I think because we were drinking and he wasn't).

Sunday morning we got up... a little hung over... and went to church with the parents. The guest pastor there gave a 26 min sermon!! OUCH!! Adam and I were thinking about leaving but Marlene wanted to stay so we stayed. It was painful, though. Then we had a fat Mexican lunch and drove back to the 115 degree weather in Phoenix. =(

So... that's our weekend in a nutshell. Exciting, right?!?!?!? hahahaha... no, not really... but I wanted to share anyway. No one said you had to read it!! Love ya!! =)

Disaster Update

The Great Flood of 2008:
Everything dried up without any damage, except for the cabinets in our master bathroom. YAY!! So this past Thursday they came out and cleaned our carpets (in the entire house) and today we get to put everything back together (except for the bathroom... that's not fixed yet). The contractors came out last Tuesday to fix the bathroom, but brought the wrong part, so now we're just waiting on them to get everything together so that we can have our master bath back.

Easy Bake Mazda:
I took my car into the dealership last Saturday... ended up having to leave it there and get a rental because they couldn't figure out what was wrong. Turned out to be a broken blower control module that would've cost $1500 to fix, but the service writer worked out a deal with Mazda where it would be covered under warranty since I was only 400 miles past it. I got my car back on Wednesday and the AC works great! I guess my blower control module has always been a little broken, though, because whereas before I had 4 different speeds that were a little different but pretty much the same, now I have 4 very distinct air speeds. It's great!

Adam and I went to the Brad Paisley concert on Thursday. Jewel was the opening act. The concert was great. I was a little hot (outdoor venue) but both Jewel and Brad put on a great show. It was definitely a blast from the past with Jewel. Ah... high school memories... =).

When it Rains... it POURS!!!

It's already over 100 degrees every day. This is an important fact to keep in mind for the following story.

Yesterday morning I get up, get ready for work, get in my car, pull out of the drive way, turn on the AC... turn on the AC... turn on the AC... ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME??!?!?!?!?!??

My AC isn't working. I have 4 fan speeds, okay? And when I put it on 1, the AC is on, but no air. When I put it on 2, the AC is on, but no air. When I put it on 3, the air is on, but no AC. When I put it on 4, the air is on, but no AC!!!!!!!!

So, I drove to work and back with my windows down and sweating like crazy. It sucked. Luckily today Adam and I were able to carpool so we took his car. Tomorrow, who knows... blah!

So now, we're living in 1/2 our house and using 1/2 our cars. WHAT NEXT?!?!?!?

On the positive side, there's not much damage from the great flood of 2008 (contractor thinks we'll be back in our room by end of next week) and I've got an appt to take my car in on Saturday. Apparently I'm not the first Mazda 6 to have this problem... so Shan and Amber, watch out! =)

the Marshalls have been flooded out!!

OMG!! This weekend had so much stuff packed into it I don't even know what to tell you!!

We knew yesterday was going to be busy, but OMG!!! Okay, so we knew that in the morning we were going to have to take my car for an oil change and get my breaks checked. Then, at noon, our friends were throwing a party for their little girl's 1st bday. It was really cute seeing the kids (and my big kid/husband) playing in the water and everything. Plus it was a rare chance to see some friends who I don't get to see very often.

Then we had the Kenny Chesney concert. A group of us met up and really just acted-a-fool at this concert. We had good seats, a lot of beer, and lots of people-watching entertainment. =) Afterwards, we went over to a friend's house for drinks and 80s trivia (yeah... I suck at that btw) and got home around 2:30am. I only tell you this because as we're pulling up to the house, we notice that the street lamp in front of the house was out and Adam jokes about how there's probably someone in our house waiting to kill us in the dark. We go into the house and Adam goes to let the dog out and as I'm walking back to the bedroom I hear running water coming from the master bath... like someone's taking a shower or something. I'm all tense and ready to go grab the gun (because now I'm thinking there's a murderer taking a shower in our house... I know that sounds stupid... but Adam made that joke) and then I start towards the bathroom and my feet start squishing IN THE BEDROOM!! Our bedroom has about 2 freaking inches of water in it!!! I run to the toilet and turn off the water and just start yelling for Adam. Adam comes running back there thinking I'm getting murdered (because of his joke) and runs right into the swamp that is now our bedroom. Long story short (sort of), Adam starts scooping water out of the bathroom and I call professionals to come pump out our bedroom. Here we are, drunk but quickly sobering up at 3am, moving all of our bedroom furniture outside and wringing out clothes that had been on the floor. The professional dude got here at like 4am, pumped out all the water, set up a dehumidifier and a crap load of fans, and said he'd be back on Monday. We moved into the guest room and now our house looks like a refugee camp with our bedroom stuff all over the house!

The guy says it'll take anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks to fix, depending on whether or not the walls soaked up any water, which we won't know until Monday. Apparently the supply hose that goes from the wall to the toilet cracked and that's why there was so much water everywhere. He was saying that those things can dump 1500 gallons of water an hour and he guessed ours had been running for about an hour or two. Craziness....

Anyway, that's our 26 hour day yesterday. I'm running off 4 hours of sleep and have a paper to write still. YAY!! =) Gotta love being an adult...

Grossology

Good morning, my lovelies!!

Happy Memorial Day!!

So since Adam and I decided not to go anywhere for this holiday weekend (traffic, gas prices, laziness, etc), we decided to try something in Phoenix that we haven't done yet. So yesterday we went to the Phoenix Science Museum. They had this one exhibit called Grossology (after those children's books) and it was a lot of fun. It teaches kids all about how your body works -- mainly how/why we sneeze, burp, urinate, poop, and vomit. They had all of these interactive stations where you shot balls into a giant nostril (the balls were supposed to be germs), pumped a bunch of gas into a "stomach" to make a giant burp, use air tubes to make loud fart noises, etc.

Lesson learned, though: if you're in an exhibit called "Grossology," don't smell things!! =/ They had this one station where there were 4 tubes and you were supposed to smell them and then guess what they were. So I decide to do it, thinking "how bad could this be?" Okay, so the first one was anus (I'm not joking). It smelled bad but whatever, it just smelled like someone farted after eating too much Mexican food. The next one was mouth, didn't smell like anything. Then came foot... yeah, I almost threw up!! They should really warn you about that!! I didn't even try to smell the armpit one. The whole rest of the day I kept wanting to get sick... so afterwards we went across the plaza to this British pub we like and drank some good beer to try to fix my "nausea." Adam was laughing at me since the whole time I kept asking him if it really smelled like shit or if it was just me. He said it was just me... =(

On the positive side, it was a lot of fun pretending like we were kids again. They had a lot of cool exhibits. Adam really liked the one about weather. We didn't even get annoyed by all the children running around... must mean we're ready to create one of our own. I can hear all of our Phoenix friends getting excited right now. Don't you guys start, too!

Anyway, hope you all are enjoying your holiday weekends. We have our flag flying outside at 1/2 staff today... don't forget to take 2 seconds today to pray for those soldiers, airmen, sailors, and marines who have given their lives for us yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Love and miss you all!
Sal

Fun/Busy Weekend

In my attempt to use this blog more, I'm going to tell you about this weekend. I apologize in advance if this seems pointless, but I promised to write more, so I am. =)

My first class for grad school ends this Tuesday, so I'm really excited about that. I know it's just an intro class, but that's one credit closer to graduation!! =) Don't I sound like an Academic Counselor? hahahaha... So anyway, to celebrate Adam took me out to dinner on Friday night to this place called Ground Control. It's actually really cool. An Air Force pilot and his wife own it and it has a huge selection of wine, gelato, and beer. They also have live music... it was packed!

Saturday I finished up my final paper for the class and then drove up to Care Free to join Adam and the AZ National Guard Conference. There was a banquet on Saturday night so we got dressed up and had a very yummy dinner and watched impersonators of Bob Hope and the Andrews Sisters. They were actually really good... their set just lasted a little too long... okay, a lot too long. =) Good thing there was a bar!! =) Here are some pictures:

So, we woke up early this morning and drove back to Avondale for church because today we reaffirmed our baptisms and joined Alleluia Lutheran. We've really been taking our time trying to find a church that fits us and we finally did it. Everyone is young (including the pastors) and we really have a lot in common with them. Adam's even been recruited to help with the Boy Scouts tomorrow night. They're working on aeronautics right now and Adam's going to go in and talk with them about his job and bring them some cool stuff to play with. Their Scout Master is really excited, too, I think. =)

Anyway, gotta get to cleaning the house. Adam's aunt is staying with us this week and I can't have her see our messy home. =)

I Suck

Okay... so basically I've posted 2xs in March, 1x in April, and now it's May... I suck!! I'll get better, I promise.

So, last weekend Adam and I went to Cannon Beach, OR, for a family meeting. Well, Adam had the family meeting; I had a nice weekend vacation and got to see some family. =) I'd never been to Oregon before, so that was pretty cool. Just driving from the airport to Cannon Beach I got to see both snow and the beach... the 2 things I miss living in AZ. And everything was so GREEN!!! I miss that, too. Here's a pic of us in Oregon (cuz I know you miss our pretty faces... hahaha).

So... what else... I started class this past week. Man, it's hard getting used to having to do assignments and reading again. And it's all online, so that's different, too. I'll get used to it eventually, I'm sure. =) My instructor has really specific requirements, too... like I have to post at least 2 substantial responses at least 4 days each week and I've got papers due that have to be posted on specific days. It sucks because it makes me have to choose priorities again. Like, today I'm missing a friend's graduation ceremony so that I can post a paper and do 2 participation postings. I probably should've done them yesterday... but Adam and I chose to go to happy hour and try to see a movie. So see? I made a bad choice... but I'm sure I'll make a couple until I get the hang of this. I still get to go celebrate with our friend tonight, though, and Adam's showing his face at the ceremony, so it works out, I guess.

Yeah, so our neighbor that just moved in has been letting the front yard get all covered in weeds and their plants are all dying. Their front yard looks terrible!! Well, I'm really excited because this morning I woke up and there's a whole landscaping crew over there with a chain saw and everything! So, I'm hoping their yard will look a lot better. I'm curious to see how it looks right now but I don't want to be the nosy neighbor that's butting into their business. =) hahaha... I know... too late, right? =)

Well, that's it for now. I miss you all so much!! I need some dim sum... =)

First Date

Yesterday was the 3-year celebration of our 1st date. Yeah... can you believe it? 3 years ago, yesterday, Adam was picking me up for the first time and taking me out. So, we went out for an impromptu dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Tastings.

It really was just a fluke that we decided to go to Tastings... but guess what? They have specials randomly (it's not a chain, which is why we like it, and this awesome chef, Chef John) and the special last night was... drum roll please... MARYLAND CRABCAKES!! We had to get them. They were absolutely perfect, too. Adam told the waitress how it was fate... you can guess she probably didn't care much. =)

So, in light of the occasion, we got talking about that date and remembering random things. Okay, so just to fill you in, on our first date we went to an authentic Greek restaurant and then went to listen to live Blues music in this dive bar (which turned out to be one of our fav places to go). So, my remembrance was how when Adam ate the olives, he didn't spit the pit out; he gently pushed it out of his mouth onto a spoon and then put the pit on a plate. Fancy, huh? =) His was how he drove around trying to find a florist that was still open and couldn't get any flowers anywhere, not even at the Wal-Mart across the street. We both couldn't remember what our conversation was about; just that we were in that restaurant talking and drinking wine for about 3 hours. It was a fun first date.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that.

painted house pics

here are some pics from the house now that we've painted it. the colors look a little weird since my camera is old and doesn't seem to work right... but you get the point. =)

the office in brick

the guest room in light sage green

the kitchen / dining room in sand

The living room accent wall in brick

catching up...

So every few days or so I get a blog post from Christine filling us in on everything going on in Korea... and I LOVE IT!! I never thought that I'd enjoy getting mass postings about Christine's life, but I think it's because it makes me feel like I'm an active part of her life... even though I'm not... and I'm across the Pacific from her.

So... I'm horrible about calling people back or just calling to call (I don't know why but I'm tired of the phone). So, I'm going to try doing this blog thing and then you can all keep up with me. And if you don't want to hear about me (or Adam), then you can just delete the email. =)

A quick summary of the last few months: I got a new job; I've started gardening; we finished painting the house; Adam's going to start ACSC.

So, I quit my job as Compliance Officer for the debt settlement company I was working for and took a job working as an Academic Counselor for University of Phoenix. Yes... I know that they have nothing to do with each other; but in fairness, none of my jobs have had anything to do with each other!! I love learning about new industries and learning about educational institutions is exciting so far. I have a completely new found respect for UPX and their education. I fully admit that I used to think that it was a diploma mill... but only like 65% of people graduate and their requirements for graduation, attendance, gpa, etc. are strict!! Plus, with this job, I'll get the opportunity to earn my Masters for FREE!! So... here we go... I'm starting a new job that's located 5 mins from Adam's work so that means we can carpool and we're both starting up school again. Life is going to be pretty busy/interesting for a while.

Yeah, so while I'm working on my Masters, Adam will be taking ACSC... Air Command and Staff College. It's a requirement to make O5 - Lt Col... so we figured we might as while take classes at the same time and then we'll both stay motivated.

We finished painting the house. After we clean it up, I'll take pictures and post them for you. Basically, the house is a sand color, with the office painted a brick red, the guest room a light sage green, and our bedrooom a battleship gray. Oh, and the living room has a brick red accent wall. The colors sound weird, but they look great! I've also started gardening. I've got some African Marigolds, Petunias, and regular Marigolds going. The regular Marigolds aren't growing like I thought they would... but it is AZ. =) Adam's got the grass, oleanders, and trees pretty trimmed up and the front yard bushes are trimmed up, also. Our house is starting to look like a home! Can you believe it?

Well, that's about it on this end. Cicada is still retarded... we've found we're in an odd situation with her allergies. Everything is blooming so she's rashy and red... but now she's throwing up her claritin. Basically we just have to leave her itchy and hope it doesn't get too bad. We'll see.
